Learn how to listen effectively. Listening can be powerful if you manage to obtain insight, solutions, answers, useful information, deliver a message, or give a memorable impression.

1 Listening

Common approaches of listening are: listening for opportunities, to get information, to how you can benefit, and sometimes listening to your own thoughts, to name a few.

When you listen for thinking, you listen to others as competent. This can help them resolve their own dilemmas.

2 Assuming

Often people have the answers to questions and dilemmas they are in, through listening you can help them think for themselves and resolve their own dilemmas.

Provide them with the platform to talk and listen to their own thoughts. Stay out of the details, don’t give advice and don’t tell them how to think differently.

Ask Open, Thinking Questions

Asking a question is very important yet a basic way to engage people in conversations and gather information. An open-ended question is designed to encourage a full, meaningful answer using ones knowledge and/or feelings.

Ask questions which typically begin with words such as “Why” and “How”, or phrases such as “Tell me about…”. Often they are not technically a question, but a statement which implicitly asks for a response.
